EARNING ACADEMIC CREDIT

Your home school. Your credit.

AMO works directly with U.S. and international medical schools to ensure rotations count toward your degree. Most home schools approve AMO rotations for core credit, elective credit, or sub-internship credit when paperwork is in order.

Before applying, we recommend confirming with your home school registrar that the rotation meets their requirements. AMO provides syllabus documentation, supervising physician credentials, and hour tracking to support the approval process.

COMMON QUESTIONS

The basics, answered.

Can I earn academic credit for an AMO rotation?

Most home schools approve AMO rotations for core, elective, or sub-internship credit. Confirm with your home school registrar before applying. AMO provides syllabus documentation, supervising physician credentials, and hour tracking to support approval.

Are AMO rotations audition rotations?

Many AMO rotations are at residency programs, meaning yes — they function as audition rotations. Talk to an advisor about which sites align with the programs you're interested in matching into.

What's the difference between an elective, sub-I, and clerkship?

Electives are usually 4-week M4 rotations chosen for interest or career exposure. Sub-internships (sub-Is) are more intensive, intern-level rotations. Clerkships are core rotations. AMO offers all three formats across 70+ specialties.

Will I get a Letter of Evaluation?

Yes. Every AMO rotation includes a Letter of Evaluation from your supervising physician on completion. LoEs from outside your home school typically strengthen ERAS applications.

How far in advance should I apply?

Apply 3–6 months ahead for popular specialties and sites, especially for audition rotations during M4 application season. Less competitive specialties can be booked closer to the rotation date.

Can I do a virtual rotation?

Yes. AMO offers virtual rotations via telehealth platforms. Useful between in-person blocks, for Step prep periods, or for specialties where exposure matters more than hands-on procedure work.
