What to expect:
Visitors will work with a cardiologist based in McKinney, Texas. Through this rotation experience, visitors will learn about the medical specialty of cardiology as it is concerned with diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases of the cardiovascular system, which includes the heart and the blood vessels.
This clinical experience will provide exposure to skills such as the recording of medical history and the performance of physical exams as they relate to cardiovascular diseases. Visitors will become familiar with interpreting echocardiograms in addition to evaluating chest x-rays and diagnostic reports.
In addition to the learning and skills that visitors obtain during a cardiology rotation, individuals who choose to participate in the subspecialty rotation of advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology will follow a more specialized curriculum geared towards patients with heart issues that are difficult to control, and those who have devices in place and may require multiple treatments and surgeries. Visitors will become familiar with biopsies, diagnostic right heart catheterizations, LVADs, and post-transplant inpatient services. Clinical activities may include implantable device procedures, echocardiograms, MSP/PFT, and autonomic testing.
